Scripture

10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’

Reflection

As we continue our “Courage to Triumph” Sermon Series, we look at the Church of Pergamum, a sophisticated city situated on a hill 1000 feet above the surrounding countryside, a center of Greek culture, education and knowledge. It was also a place where different idols were worshipped.

As Satan tempts Jesus in the desert bringing him to a high mountain and showing him all the kingdoms of the world in their splendor, Jesus stands firm and faithful to God.

“Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.”

What kind of idols are tempting to us? Power, riches, education, recognition of men… will we remain faithful when Satan tempts us?

                      1)   Pray that we will recognize Satan’s tactics.

                     2)   Just like Jesus, we can resist and stand firm, through standing in the Word of God.
