Due to the Coronavirus outbreak Reflect Sunday Youth Service meetings, at Shanghai Community Fellowship, are suspended until further notice by mandate of city governing authorities.

Dear Reflect Families,

These are uncertain times. However, thankfully we serve a certain God! Our God is sovereign and in control at all times! Remember that God says:

Isaiah 41:10

10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

We must remember to turn to God if we feel fearful, anxious or like we lack strength. In all things, God understands you and if you turn to him, he will guard your heart and mind with his wonderful peace!

The focus that the leaders of SCF decided to have during these times, is captured in 4 words: Care, Community, Content and Prayer. For more details concerning these general focus areas, please see SCF’s e-newsletter. You can sign up for the e-newsletter by writing ([email protected]).

Reflect Youth Group will live out these focuses by:

Care – It is very important to continue seeking to connect with each other and to care for each other. This is a great time to begin actively using Reflect’s WeChat Groups, in order to encourage and checkup on each other. You are not alone at this time! Some ministries in SCF are already meeting online using tools like WeChat, ZOOM, and YouVersion. Currently, Reflect is looking into these tools to find something suitable for possible Reflect Online Sunday Youth Services. Look out for a future update with information on Reflect’s upcoming Online Sunday Youth Services.

In the meantime, last weekend SCF created an online experience that was shared “live” through SCF’s website. During the normal Sunday 2pm and 4pm time slots, we listened and responded live to a podcast conversation on the value of a personal prayer life, especially when facing the unexpected. Keep an eye out on SCF’s website for further information regarding these live SCF Online Sunday Service experiences.

Lastly, everything SCF is doing and everything SCF wants to communicate will appear on SCF’s website (www.shanghaifellowship.org) and in SCF’s e-newsletter.

Content – Reflect Youth Group will begin adding new content to our page on SCF’s website. Please check the website regularly for new content and content updates. At the moment, this new content will come in the form of daily devotions and recommendations from the Right Now Media library. A Right Now Media subscription is free. Get your free membership by emailing: [email protected]. You can also scan the QR code. Please check out their website:

Community – During this time it is easier than ever to go dark, to be M.I.A., or in other words to distance yourself from your friends in your Christian community. Reflect is not ending, we are just transitioning to more of an online presence at this time. Sure, online may not be the same as face to face. However, more than any time, this is the day to start reach out to others in the Reflect community!

Prayer – Even though we are not meeting together in person or as frequently, it’s important that we continue our own personal quiet times, as well as, to continue praying for each other. A great resource for kick starting quiet times and getting into the habit of praying can be found at the www.prayercourse.org site.

Prayer Suggestions:

  • For Reflect youth and families still in China
  • For Reflect youth and families who are traveling and or will be leaving China
  • For Reflect youth and families who are abroad
  • For continued community in Reflect

Blessings,

Cameron Huckabee, Reflect Youth Group Director
