13 APRIL 2018 -2 Timothy 2:5 (NIV)

Scripture

Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules.

Reflection

These words are written to Timothy; a younger Christian worker whom Paul had mentored for many years. It’s the second metaphor to help him be successful in leadership. The rules of the contest itself include suffering, if he wants to obtain a “victors crown” – there is no other way. If you want to finish the race with the words, “Well done faithful servant” ringing in your ears then follow faithful men and women who have gone before; follow them as they followed Christ. (Ps. Dale).

Prayer

Ask the Lord for the gift of faith to see, pray and act for the redemption of the situation you’re concerned about.
