30 MAY 2018 – Acts 4:19-22 (NIV)

Scripture

19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! 20 As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

21 After further threats they let them go. They could not decide how to punish them, because all the people were praising God for what had happened. 22 For the man who was miraculously healed was over forty years old.

Reflection

These couple of verses follow Peter’s message to repent and to turn to Christ (See Tuesday’s devotion). However in chapter 4 verse 2 the Sadducees (religious people) were greatly annoyed by the message Peter spoke and as a result they took them into custody (v.3). But it is in verses 19-22 that we see how Peter, with wisdom, spoke about what they have seen and heard (their testimony) (v.20) and this results in the Sadducees releasing them, since they can’t counter or find fault with Peter and John’s personal testimony (v.21). We can learn from this encounter, that not only is our personal testimonies powerful, but people can rarely object to our own personal transformational experience (Con).

Thoughts for the day

  • How often do you share your personal testimony to others?
  • What do you feel God is telling you through this passage?
  • What is one way you can apply this truth to your life today?
  • Who can you encourage with this story/message?

Prayer

Ask the Lord for the gift of faith to see, pray and act for the redemption of the situation you’re concerned about.
