28 January 2021 – Psalm 34:7-8 (NIV)
Scripture
7 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them.
8 Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Reflection
David was a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22), he feared the Lord. David experienced the protection of the Lord, he narrowly escaped death among the Philistines while he was still hunted by King Saul who wanted to kill him. In the midst of troubles, David tasted and saw that the Lord is good as he put his trust in the Lord.
Unlike the wrong kind of fear (Joel 2:21; Luke 12:32) which is destructive, the fear of the Lord brings with it many blessings. One of the blessings it brings is God’s protection.
We are blessed when we take refuge in God or put our trust in Him. As we do so, we will be able to taste and see for ourselves the goodness of the Lord. So we will know through trials and the experience of challenges this truth that the Lord is good.
