23 MAY 2018 – Acts 1:9-11 (NIV)

Scripture

After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

Reflection

Theologian Michael Lloyd has some great points to make about the benefit of the ascension of Jesus, including: The coronation of Christ, The exaltation of Christ AND humanity, Enabling the pouring out of the Spirit on all flesh, The commitment of God to His world and Giving us a job to do. All authority has been given to Him to make disciples of All nations, now go! An ascended Jesus is enabled to keep the promise, “surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Ps. Dale).

Thoughts for the day

  • In which areas in your life do you need more of the outpouring of the Spirit?
  • What do you feel God is telling you through this passage?
  • What is one way you can apply this truth to your life today?
  • Who can you encourage with this story/message?

Prayer

Pray for the team traveling to India to care for the children of Bible translators for a week. They leave today!
