Scripture
9 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always [remaining with you perpetually—regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age.”
Reflection
Otherwise known as the “Great Commission” these last words of Jesus as recorded by Matthew give the direction we need as the sons and daughters of God; brothers and sisters to Jesus. There is a lot going on in this commission so don’t miss the main verb, “make disciples”. We coach people to help them find the answers that are already inside them, we mentor people to follow our example in whatever level of expertise that we offer but we disciple people to help them know and follow Jesus. We don’t make disciples for ourselves, we make disciples for Jesus. Go! (Ps. Dale).
