8 December 2020 – Psalm 85:10 (NIV)

Scripture

10 Love and faithfulness meet together;
righteousness and peace kiss each other.

Reflection

I remember standing at the altar in my tuxedo anxiously waiting. As the opening music came to a close and the doors of the chapel swung open, the Lord spoke to me. He said, “This is how I feel about you, the church.” And in that moment, as I saw my bride walk through those doors, I was flooded with such emotion that I could not contain it any longer. Each step closer towards me, tears streaming down my face, I felt the love of Christ and my love for this woman collide.

Scholars say that the psalmist who wrote this chapter likely belonged the time close to Israel’s return from exile. Their heart must have welled up with joy as they saw the love and faithfulness of God show itself in such a tangible experience. The exuberance of finally seeing the righteousness of God prevail and the peace that comes with it could only be described in such a romantic way as a kiss. Though this passage was not directly prophesying of a time when Jesus would return and rule, it has become such. As God’s word is living and the events of time have led us to rely of these passages to be reminded of God’s goodness, faithfulness and love and that there will be a time when perfect peace will finally come. This groom is anxiously waiting for its bride to come and when that time comes it will be as glorious as a perfect kiss.

Prayer

Think of anyone you know who is an essential worker and spend time praying for their specific needs. You could even message them and ask if they would like prayer for anything in particular. Pray for energy and perseverance for essential workers as they continue to serve in their contexts.
