Cracked Pots

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” 2 Corinthians 4:7

Paul, who has written these words, referred to himself in his humanity as a “jar of clay.”  A jar of clay is vulnerable, common, and easily cracked. Sometimes it seems as if the whole world is a jar of clay.

What set Paul apart, as well as others like him, was the treasure which was inside his jar of clay. The treasure is the gospel of Jesus and it pleases God to place this great treasure in a vulnerable jar of clay.

What is amazing is although we are vulnerable as human beings, with this incredible treasure inside our jar of clay both we ourselves and others can see the “all surpassing” glory of the treasure (gospel) and the awesome, amazing God who gives it. Each day that we live in the Father’s resurrection power and not in our own strength, the treasure is changing us from the inside. One day the jar of clay itself will be transformed into a new body and we will be raised even as Jesus was raised. This is a promised future not to be taken lightly and fully anticipated.

These troubles are momentary, Jesus is forever!
