10 October 2018 – Romans 1:24-25 (NIV)

Scripture

24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

Reflection

Paul elaborates as to why people end up doing what they do. Through suppressing the truth and through allowing their hearts to become futile and darkened, God gives them over to their sinful and wicked ways. This can happened in a number of ways (see tomorrow’s devotion). But the bottom line is, even as Christians we would often exchange the truth about God (that He is all we need) with a lie (if only I can be married, I will be happy or the immediate sexual pleasure or thought would be greater that knowing God’s all powerful and peaceful presence). We end up worshiping the thought or action instead of God himself.  (Con).

Thoughts for the day

  • In what way/s do you worship or serve created things, instead of the Creator?
  • What do you feel God is telling you through this passage?
  • What is one way you can apply this truth to your life today?
  • Who can you encourage with this story/message?

Prayer

Think of someone you know who could use a little joy in their lives and pray for presence of the Lord to rest on them. “In His presence there is fullness of Joy” Psalm 16:11
