Scripture
“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,”
Reflection
Today’s verses fall in a letter of the apostle Paul addressed to the church in Ephesus. Paul contrasts being filled with the Holy Spirit with getting drunk. Drunkenness is a sin, it is destructive. As Christians, we need to constantly remind ourselves that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, the body that we have doesn’t belong to us anymore, it belongs to God (1 Corinthians 6:19). So we ought to honor God with our body.
As opposed to being drunk, we need to continually be filled with the Holy Spirit so that we can be a blessing to others and glorify God.
