30 May 2019 – Hebrews 10:32 and (cross reference) Revelation 2:1-7 (NIV)

Scripture

32 Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering.

Reflection

Paul begins this chapter by stating the honours and privileges Christ has procured for those who put their faith in Jesus. Such rights include 1) boldness to enter into the holiest of holies and everything that comes with such an incredible privilege and 2) knowing we have an ultimate high priest who is also our mediator of reconciliation.

By mentioning these privileges, we have in Christ, and as a result of Christ, Paul encourages believers that when they do endure great conflict of suffering, that they should take heart and remember these privileges they have in Christ and let such knowledge spur them on to persevere in times of difficulties and trials.

The great thing about this truth is it’s timeless. Not only is it applicable to the primary audience of Paul’s time, but also it’s relevant to us today here in Shanghai (Con – Discipleship Director).

Thoughts for the day

  • Are you currently enduring difficult times? What or who do you hold onto in order to persevere?
  • What does this passage tell you about God or Jesus?
  • What does this passage tell you about humanity?
  • What do you feel God is telling you through this passage?
  • How can you apply this message in an area of your life that needs transformation?
  • Is there anyone you think should hear or will benefit from this message? Go and tell them.

Prayer

Pray for courage; pray for opportunities to be courageously generous, loving and gracious to those around you today.
