3 JANUARY 2018 – Matthew 6:19-21 (ESV)

Scripture

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Reflection

Professional fundraisers understand that if they can tell a story that touches the heart we will give. Here, Jesus is saying the opposite; where we place our money tells us where our heart is, in other words, what really matters to us. This is a simple principle and easy to check. When we look at where our money goes every month by checking our online banking statement or disbursements we get a clear picture of what we value. It might be shocking but worth a second look (Ps. Dale).
