6 MARCH 2018 – Psalm 107:1-3 (ESV)

Scripture

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
whom he has redeemed from trouble
and gathered in from the lands,
from the east and from the west,
from the north and from the south.

Reflection

One of the great things about being a part of an international church is to be in Christian community with people who have brought their stories of redemption from Asia, from the West, from the global North and the global South. Those who like to cycle or run know something about “tailwinds” and “headwinds”. To have a “tailwind” is to have the wind at your back; to experience the benefit of having the wind push you and give you strength. According to researcher Tom Gilovich, gratitude has the same effect on people; he says that gratitude is like having a tailwind in life. Give thanks to the Lord, our God and King – His love endures forever! (Ps. Dale).
