Scripture
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.
Reflection
We are surrounded! (See Hebrews 11) We are not the only ones who have struggled to live for Jesus in a way that honors him in a world that demands so much from us. Other Christians have run this race and finished well; if they could then so can we. We can help ourselves by “tossing aside” the things that make it harder to run the race, the sins that get wrapped around our ankles and cause us to stumble time and time again. Jesus has also run the race and won; he will help us. If you start to feel discouraged remember that if God is for you (and He is) then who can be against you? (Ps. Dale).
