8 April 2021 – 1 John 2:1-2 (NIV)
Scripture
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
Reflection
To be forgiven is more than one should expect and when forgiveness comes we are grateful. But what if we keep on sinning? What then? The disciples once asked Jesus how many times should someone have to forgive? What is a reasonable number? Jesus’ response? “Always”. His moral authority for this kind of outrageous offer came from his own experience – it’s the number of times he is willing to forgive – always.
