Scripture

John,

To the seven churches in the province of Asia:

Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.

To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.

Reflection

The entire book of Revelation, written to the seven churches and all of the church until Jesus returns, is all about Jesus. John doesn’t waste any time and gives us three things we should know about Jesus. He is, the “faithful witness” (Psalm 89:37), the “firstborn from the dead” (Psalm 89:27) and “the ruler of the kings of the earth” (Psalm 89:27).  We must remind ourselves that while the nations seem to be ruled by people called kings, presidents and prime ministers, there is another ruler who is even greater than the rulers of the nations. His word will be final and he will rule until all things are submitted to him. Find your courage.

Thoughts for the day

  • What does this passage tell you about God or Jesus?
  • What does this passage tell you about humanity?
  • What do you feel God is telling you through this passage?
  • How can you apply this message in an area of your life that needs transformation?
  • Is there anyone you think should hear or will benefit from this message? Go and tell them.

Prayer

What is God saying to me at the moment? Take time to listen or to read through your journal for themes, promptings from the Holy Spirit. “Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always” Psalm 105:4.
