30 October 2019 – 2 Peter 3:1-2 (NIV)

Scripture

Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.

Reflection

I enjoy a good summary, whether in reading or in a presentation. We can get so “buried in the details” sometimes we lose sight of the “bigger picture”. Peter pauses here in 3:1-2 to summarize and allow us to “catch our breath” before moving on. In this pause, we learn that the Bible is meant to stimulate our thinking. According to the 2019 State of the Bible survey, the top 3 ways that reading the Bible impacts us are: 1) We are more willing to engage our faith, 2) We are more loving and patient toward others; 3) We are more generous with our time and resources. Be encouraged and keep reading (or listening) to the Bible!!

Thoughts for the day

  • What does this passage tell you about God or Jesus?
  • What does this passage tell you about humanity?
  • What do you feel God is telling you through this passage?
  • How can you apply this message in an area of your life that needs transformation?
  • Is there anyone you think should hear or will benefit from this message? Go and tell them.

Prayer

When challenges come we can so easily forget where our identity comes from. Today take time to pause and be reminded of God’s love for you.
