25 January 2021 – Isaiah 43:1-3 (NIV)

Scripture

But now, this is what the Lord says—
    he who created you, Jacob,
    he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
    I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
    they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
    you will not be burned;
    the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the Lord your God,
    the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I give Egypt for your ransom,
    Cush and Seba in your stead.

Reflection

In today’s verses we read about the prophet Isaiah’s prophecy concerning God’s renewed promise of protection and deliverance to the nation of Israel. Israel had gone through a serious punishment for their sins, but now there is going to be a complete change. God will be their protector and deliverer.

Like Israel, as Christians we also belong to God. God has redeemed us and saved us through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Because we belong to God, we should not fear when we go through any sort of challenges in life. We should have the assurance that God will always be with us as He promised (Matthew 28:20b). “The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all” (Psalm 34:19).

  • What does this passage tell you about God or Jesus

  • How will you respond/apply God’s Word today?
  • Whom will you share with today’s passage or takeaway?

Prayer

Think of another person in your life who needs God to move in their situation. Ask for God to be at work. Approach the Lord of all with boldness today, knowing that he delights in you, and those you love.
