28 June 2019 – Luke 12:8 (NIV)

Scripture

“I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God.

Reflection

Verse 8 occurs towards the end of Jesus’s three years of public ministry. Jesus knew he would be crucified to save mankind. Based on this knowledge, Jesus told the disciples part of making Him known would involve acknowledging Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

In today’s day and age to “acknowledging Jesus” doesn’t mean only to (1) understand who Jesus is on an intellectual level. Your actions need to reflect your relationship with Jesus. And (2) we might think we’re already saved because we were baptized, or because we attend worship services on Sunday, or even study the Bible, and pray. But Jesus never once said that such religious acts had anything to do with our salvation. Yes, they are necessary to grow deeper in our relationship with God, but it’s not our deeds that save us. It’s knowing Jesus and allowing Him to transform us from the inside out so that we can become more like Him.

Thoughts for the day

  • What does this passage tell you about God or Jesus?
  • What does this passage tell you about humanity?
  • What do you feel God is telling you through this passage?
  • How can you apply this message in an area of your life that needs transformation?
  • Is there anyone you think should hear or will benefit from this message? Go and tell them.

Prayer

Be still and invite the Holy Spirit to help you be thankful. Identify 3 things that you are thankful for right now. It doesn’t matter whether they are big or small.
