Scripture
6 like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her lord. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.
Reflection
These words come at the end of a paragraph where Peter writes under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit concerning marriage, specifically the roles of husband and wife. Many things are said and eventually it is Sarah, the wife of Abraham, who is held up as an example for other women and wives. The direction is clear: Be like Sarah as a wife and “do not give way to fear”. The word fear means a fluttering excitement, a disturbed spirit caused by uncontrolled passion, especially fear. Worry and fear can consume us, unchecked and non-specific fear distorts what we see and we need our sight to see with eyes of faith (Ps. Dale).

Prayer
Think of someone you know who could use a little joy in their lives and pray for presence of the Lord to rest on them. “In His presence there is fullness of Joy” Psalm 16:11.
