24 NOVEMBER 2017 – John 15:5 (NIV)

Scripture

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Reflection

A mentor once described what we do for Jesus with the words “fruitful and effective”, I never forgot it. Jesus clearly gives us the direction we need for being fruitful, it is to remain in Him. Think of all the things we can do for him, teach children, serve the poor, feed the hungry, or prophesy but none of if it adds up to anything if Jesus is not in those things and He will not be in those things if we are not in Him. One way to be in Christ is to be in His Word, that is the Bible. Jesus has chosen to reveal himself in the words of the Bible; the more we know it, read it, memorize it and let it transform our worldview the more we are in Him. We become “life giving” people because the life giving qualities of the vine are in us (Ps. Dale).
