28 NOVEMBER 2017 – 1 Peter 2:11-12 (ESV)

Scripture

11 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. 12 Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

Reflection

The evil one, Satan, is waging a war on the battlefield of our minds. He is regularly sending urges, fantasies and thoughts to stimulate the desires that take us away from our heavenly Father. The choices we make about the things we will think about, the places we will go, the things we will do or not do can help the Holy Spirit help us win the battle and give praise to God (Ps. Dale).

Thoughts for the day

  • What does this passage tell us about God and people?
  • What do you feel God is telling you through this passage?
  • What would it look like if Christ-followers totally applied this passage in their lives today?
  • Who can you encourage with this story/message?

Prayer

Take a moment to pray for one person on your mind. Pray for your relationship with them; for their situation; for God to be near to them.
